Tracy Ayling QC and Shauna Ritchie prosecute Gross Negligence Manslaughter of seven-year-old Summer

Cases 15 Jun 18

Summer Grant died in March 2016 after the bouncy castle on which she was playing was lifted and carried by the wind across Harlow Town Park from the funfair where it was being operated.

Fairground workers Shelby and William Thurston were convicted after a three week long trial at Chelmsford Crown Court of Gross Negligence Manslaughter and of breaching s.3 of the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 in relation to their operation of the inflatable, which was insufficiently secured to the ground and being used in unsuitable windy weather conditions.
