Anand Beharrylal QC will be joining a panel of speakers chaired by Crispin Blunt MP and Chair of APPG on Global LGBT+ Rights. The discussion is being held ahead of the appeal before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in Chandler v The State. That case, although nominally about the death penalty, has significant implications for the progress of LGBT+ rights in the Caribbean and Commonwealth, as it hinges on the historic Savings Law Clause enshrined in the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago. The Savings Law Clause has been interpreted as immunising pre-independence laws from human rights challenges under the Constitution.
