In May 2024, at the conclusion of a 4-day trial at Inner London Crown Court, the jury convicted IT who was charged with a single count of stalking, bucking the trend in national statistics of only 1.4% of stalking reports ending in conviction*. IT and the victim had met at a Pride event many years ago and had casual sexual encounters thereafter, but despite the victim making clear he did not wish for a romantic relationship with IT, IT became obsessive in his behaviour, buzzing the door to the victim’s property uninvited on numerous occasions and bombarding him with messages (including unsolicited explicit photographs of himself), to such an extent that the victim told police he felt “terrorised” and was sleeping with a hammer under his bed. Following the jury’s conviction, in early July IT was sentenced to 34 months’ imprisonment.
