Tim Kendal, of 2BR, represented media lawyer Mark Lewis at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. After a three-day hearing the Tribunal found that Mr Lewis had tweeted offensively in response to a number of anti-Semitic tweets originally directed at him.
Mr Lewis’ case was that he had been subjected to a protracted, persistent and disgusting campaign of anti jewish, anti-physical disability hatred that had included; holocaust denial, anti-Semitic provocations, death threats and the use of his image super-imposed upon images of the gas chambers at Auschwitz.
Following an application by Mr Kendal, the SRA conceded that they had been unable properly to investigate the original hate campaign but were forced to admit that Mr Lewis had been a victim of it.
Notwithstanding the SRA allegations that Mr Lewis’ conduct had occurred over a period of 18 months and could not be condoned, the SDT imposed a £2,500 penalty.
