Sam Magee QC appeared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in Northern Ireland successfully responding to an Appeal in which the Appellant challenged how credit for guilty pleas in Northern Ireland is calculated. Sam’s multi-jurisdictional experience assisted in successfully arguing that, unlike in England, Wales and Scotland, a defendant’s attitude in interview as well as whether the defendant was ‘caught red-handed’ could be taken into account when determining the amount of credit to be afforded an accused if they later pleaded guilty.
