Sam Magee KC successfully prosecuted a man charged with the murder and dismemberment of his friend, DH. The remains of DH were discovered in a reservoir in August 2022. A police investigation uncovered that he had not been seen since New Year’s Eve 2021. Relying on multiple strands of circumstantial evidence, at trial, Sam Magee KC pieced together for the jury how the Defendant had not just been the last known person to see DH alive but how his phone and vehicle could be linked to DH’s last known movements and the deposition of the body at the reservoir. Relying on a complex web of cell site and ANPR data interwoven with eyewitness accounts, Sam Magee KC persuaded the jury that the Defendant could be the only person responsible for the death, the circumstances of which led to the inevitable conclusion that DH had been murdered. Inviting the jury to dismiss the suggestion made by the Defendant that another individual named in the police investigation was the real culprit, Sam Magee KC convinced the jury that the police investigation which led to the identification of the Defendant as the culprit had been conducted with meticulous precision, with the jury returning their verdict just over 3 hours after retirement.
The Defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment with the tariff to be set at a later date.
