Richard Kovalevsky QC and Jamas Hodivala, secured the acquittal of Duncan Larcombe, The Sun’s Royal Editor who had been prosecuted as part of the Met Police Operation Elvedon. Mr Larcombe appeared at the Old Bailey along with the Chief Reporter to The Sun Mr John Kay and Editors Fergus Shanahan and Geoff Webster. Also in the dock was former Colour Sergeant to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst John Hardy. The prosecution case was that Mr Larcombe paid for stories concerning Princes Harry and William who both attended Sandhurst. Mr Larcombe gave evidence telling the jury that it was in the public interest that they, as members of the public be allowed to know about their Royal Family and that the nature of the stories he had written were all positive, true and accurate. The prosecution contention that payment to serving members of the Army was so serious that it warranted a guilty verdict was flatly disputed by the former SAS Soldier and Author Andy McNab who gave evidence in the defence of Mr Larcombe. The jury agreed with Mr Larcombe and acquitted him and also aqitted Mr Hardy, the serving Army source.
