Pump Court

Special Advocacy

Our barristers act as Special Advocates appointed by the Attorney General, in the ever expanding areas of counter terrorism and deprivation of British Citizenship.

A special advocate is appointed to represent the interests of a party in closed proceedings, i.e. proceedings from which that party has been excluded. This work includes acting in national security deportation appeals before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission and cases concerning the deprivation of citizenship.

A number of members of Chambers (for example senior Treasury Counsel and those members previously holding high ranking positions in the British Army) are security vetted to a very high level and can thus deal with matters of national security and extreme sensitivity.

Members of Chambers also act, at the request of the Court, in cases where defendants are representing themselves and cross-examination is required of vulnerable witnesses.
