Nick Bonehill has recently successfully defended two separate cases where his client faced allegations of serious sexual offences.
In the first case, Nick was instructed by Ian Clift of JSP solicitors to represent a 34 year old man of previous good character. It was alleged that in the early hours of the morning the complainant had awoken to him sexually assaulting and then attempting to rape her before she fled. The Defendant however maintained that any activity was consensual. After a 7 day trial the Defendant was acquitted of all counts on the indictment.
In the second case, Nick was instructed by Michelle Breindel of Paul Robinsons Solicitors. Nick’s client faced 70 historic allegations of rape and sexual assault against his sisters over a 10 year period, finishing 15 years ago. Nick’s client denied the offences, maintaining that the allegations were false and malicious, following a significant family fall out. The case was complicated by the fact that the first complainant alleged that the abuse started when the Defendant was aged 7 (and therefore under the age if criminal responsibility). Following an 8-day trial, the jury unanimously acquitted Nick’s client in less than two hours.
