Nicholas Maggs, instructed by Bhavna Kerai of Nicholls & Nicholls Solicitors, successfully defended a client facing multiple counts of rape, sexual assault of a child and ABH.
The allegations arose in a domestic context and alleged that over an 8 year period the defendant had subjected his ex-wife and step-daughter to a campaign of sexual and violent abuse.
The defence case was that the allegations had been fabricated and were the product of collusion. Given that the charges covered such a lengthy period, involving numerous different allegations from multiple complainants, detailed cross-examination of the witnesses covering their many different accounts of these events was required.
The defence received 16,000 pages of phone evidence at the start of the trial, requiring careful analysis to identify any material of assistance to the defence case.
Following a 2-week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Nicholas’ client was acquitted on all 9 counts that he faced.
