Mowbray frustrated with Rovers win

Rovers Ewood Park 1

10:46am 1st October 2017

Rovers made hard work of their win over Gillingham.

A strong start saw Rovers lead thanks to Dominic Samuel's 5th goal of the season, they failed to build on it and the match ended 1-0.

As the second half progressed the Gills grew stronger, with Rovers grateful for a fine late save from keeper David Raya to ensure the points were claimed by the home side.

Speaking to the club website Tony Mowbray admitted he'd been left feeling frustrated.

"I thought in the first half we were good again.

"In the first half we deserved to have more than one goal.

"But I stand here just relieved that we've got the three points.

"Gillingham had drawn 0-0 with Scunthorpe in Peter Taylor's first game in midweek and it showed how resilient and strong they can be defensively.

"At 1-0 they had a go, and why wouldn't you? They pushed everybody on and we had to play a little bit with our backs to the wall.

"It is frustrating that we couldn't score the second goal, we hit the woodwork twice and I think a second goal would have killed the game. It would have knocked the stuffing out of them.

"But it didn't come and we had to hang on and David made a great save at the end.

"But we've put the points in the bag, lets try and learn some lessons, lets not be the team that is hanging on at 1-0 and see if we can finish games off."
