Dad's tribute to baby son Jack's 'miracle' survival

6:36am 20th October 2011

A boy's 'miracle' survival after being born four-months premature, weighing just 1lb 6oz, has been documented by his father in a new movie.  Little Jack Entwistle, who is now six years old, beat dramatic odds to survive, weighing less than a bag of sugar.

Filmmaker dad Alan Entwistle's gripping trailer for the movie is now going to be screened at one of the North West's biggest cinemas.  Called 24weekers, the movie has attracted so much interest that it is to be shown at the Odeon, in Manchester's Printworks, later this month.

When he was born, Jack's parents Alan and Karen were told he only had a 40per cent chance of survival, as he was the size of a man's hand.

"As a father, to hear your child only has a 40per cent chance of survival is a horrific experience.  I'd made a number of short films before and having experienced something as amazing as we did, I decided it would be a great idea for a film.  We've had loads of interest and are now looking forward to the premiere."

Alan's wife, Karen, went into premature labour after developing a blood condition called Strep B.  She gave birth to Jack on January, 3, 2005, in St Mary's Hospital, Manchester.

The VIP premiere is to take place at the Odeon, in Manchester's Printworks tonight.

The two-and-a-half minute trailer will be preceded by a champagne reception and followed by a question-and-answer session with some North West based mums of 24weekers, who will share their experiences on stage for the audience.

"We hope the premiere will help secure funding for the full-length feature film and help it to be shown in cinemas and on TV screens worldwide."

In addition to the trailer, mothers from across the world have provided over 1,000 photographs of their extremely premature babies which will be screened at this unique and special event.

24weekers is a UK-based feature film inspired by an astonishing life-changing experience.  This incredible true story about a group of mothers and their babies plunged into the frightening, strange and vital world of Neonatal Intensive Care is all too real - and the impact of the film upon its worldwide audience will be significant.

"The question for me wasn't so much should I make this film - but when?  The screenplay has been written; the promo trailer has been shot and edited; and we've now started bringing together the investment, the awareness, the distribution, and the talent, in order to bring this essential feature-length movie to the big screen."

Alan hopes to start shooting the film next year.

There are already hundreds of fans of the 24weekers film project worldwide - from the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, India and Australia.
