UPDATE: Fire at Padiham art gallery treated as suspicious

fire at art gallery in Padiham - hudson parsons

Published by Laura Pratt at 9:53pm 7th February 2019 (Updated 8:51am 8th February 2019)

A fire in Padiham has caused a main road to be closed.

The Storm Art Gallery on Burnley Road went up in flames earlier.

Here's the scene from a few hours ago - filmed by Daniel Livesey:

Artists whose work is stored inside have described the fire as a "tragedy":

Both fire crews and the police attended to try and put out the fire and cordon off the road.

There are fears of the building collapsing and the fire spreading into Harry Garlick, a neighbouring business.

Some neighbouring residents have also been evacuated as a precaution.

Bus routes are being diverted:

UPDATE

Lancashire Fire and Rescue say the fire is thought to be of suspicious origin and an investigation is underway.

There were no casualties reported.

At 23:15 crews were still in attendance.

All roads are back open.
