Royal Blackburn gets Tesla for their kids

tesla car on blackburn childrens ward

Published by Laura Pratt at 2:11pm 11th January 2019

A mini Tesla car's been donated to Royal Blackburn Hospital's children's wards - to help get kids to surgery.

The Hospital Trust say it'll help make what could be a really scary journey an enjoyable one.

Kids will be able to drive themselves down the ward to the operating theatres.

Tesla Owners Group UK dropped the car off.

Deputy Director of Operations for Surgery, Victoria Bateman said:

"On behalf of the Surgery and Anaesthetics division at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, I want to thank Tesla Owners Group UK for the superb donation of a ride-on Tesla.

"For a child, the quality of their hospital theatre experience is very important and can stay with them for life.

To be able to turn what can be a scary journey from the ward to the operating theatre into something fun can have a really positive effect on a child."

Youngsters can now drive themselves to the operating room and take their mind off their impending surgery.

The deep red Tesla Model S for Kids, which can transport children of roughly 3-8 years of age and has a top speed of 6mph, is battery powered and looks exactly like the full-size Tesla Model S.

Young Noah Lockett from Burnley (pictured above) volunteered to test drive the mini Tesla and enjoyed testing the forward and reverse gears, tough bumpers and stylish wing mirrors.
