Lancashire dad getting MBE

A Lancashire dad's made the New Years Honours list for an MBE, for his work helping victims of domestic abuse.

John Clough and his wife Penny have worked tirelessly since 2010 when they lost daughter Jane.

Jane was killed by a violent ex-partner, after suffering months of domestic abuse.

Since then, John and Penny have become patrons of Jane's Place and have even made changes to the law.

Prison sentences for people convicted of stalking raised from 5 years to 10 last year.

Now the pair are trying to get a stalking register created, so people can stay safe.

A petition already has over 164,000 signatures.

John says he hopes his MBE will help raise awareness of their campaign even more;

"It's great to have the recognition and it's all down to the work we've done since we lost Jane.

"There's still a lot of work to do, and hopefully these three letters will make a difference".

And although he's incredibly grateful for the honours, John says it's still incredibly bittersweet;

"If I could go back in time and be anonymous with my family out of the news, and still have my complete family - that would be the choice I'd make.

"But we can't go back in time, we can only look forward and try to make a difference.

"The beginning of December would be Jane's birthday - then Christmas and New Year can be hard.

"There's some happy memories going back, but I'd rather we were still sharing them".
