Mum from Haslingden loses battle with cancer

Gemma Nuttall Cancer

12:00pm 14th October 2018

A mum from Haslingden has lost her battle with cancer this morning - her mother confirms.

28-year-old Gemma Nuttall has been diagnosed with cancer three times, and has recently been battling brain and lung cancer. She's mother to 4-year-old Penelope.

Last year, Gemma was told she has between three and 12 months left to live. Her hopes rested on the Hallwang Clinic in Germany for treatment that isn't available on the NHS. She managed to raise enough money to get to Germany and was given the all clear after that.

Kate Winslet

Actress Kate Winslet  helped raise the funds needed for Gemma's treatment.

However, cancer returned earlier this year.

Sadly, Helen Sproates - mum of Gemma, has posted on Facebook today to say she is heartbroken to tell everyone her daughter lost her battle earlier this morning.

She goes on to say 'we fought so hard but we couldn't do it anymore' and that she's 'one proud but devastated mum right now'.

Helen ends by saying 'my world will never be the same again'.

RIP Gemma - a true fighter.
