Yellow weather warning as Storm Helene reaches Lancashire

Yellow weather warning - storm Helene

12:44pm 17th September 2018

A spell of very windy weather is expected for Lancashire and the rest of the North West.

Forecasters say parts of the UK should expect disruption as Storm Helene rolls in from the Atlantic.

But they no longer say it poses a risk to life.

A Met Office warning for tonight and tomorrow says parts of England and Wales, including Lancashire, can expect strong winds, falling trees and travel delays.

Gusts of 50-60 mph winds are possible inland.

What to expect

  • Some damage to trees is possible, for example large branches or trees falling in a few places
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some damage to buildings is possible, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Some roads and bridges may close
