Support for World Suicide Prevention Day at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers Ewood Park

Published by Alice Sofield at 6:01am 15th September 2018 (Updated 7:49am 15th September 2018)

Blackburn Rovers are taking today's match as an opportunity to further highlight the club's support for World Suicide Prevention Day.

Following Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's public vigil outside Blackburn Town Hall on Monday, Rovers have designated today's game against Aston Villa as an opportunity to raise further awareness.

Prior to kick-off, Rovers will replicate the 40 seconds' silence held at Monday's vigil to signify the fact that one person dies of suicide every 40 seconds - and we are asking for every supporter in the stadium to observe the silent tribute.

Fans are also encouraged to listen to an interview with members of our NCS Youth Board on the Foster's FanZone stage between 4.45pm-5pm.

The Community Trust's NCS recruitment and graduation officer, Jade Elliott, along with two inspiring young individuals, Kelly and Shannon, who are part of the NCS Youth Board that meets at Ewood Park, were part of the Rovers delegation that visited Blackburn Town Hall on Monday, which was the international day designated to raise awareness of suicide prevention.

Having been part of the NCS programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves and put something back into their local community, they have remained an active part of the organisation following their graduation.

They have helped to raise money for local mental health support charities in the aftermath of losing their friend Tiegan O'Rourke to suicide last Christmas.

Fans should also look out for promotional messages on the big screen before the game and at half-time from the Zero Suicide Alliance, who are working to help rid the UK of suicide by initially raising awareness of a free online suicide prevention training programme.
