Published by Laura Pratt at 9:22am 20th July 2018

Pupils from Colne Park High School have been struck with what appears to be norovirus on a school trip.

Students from Year 7 had been on a PGL residential when they were struck down with the illness.

The school tweeted to say the kids had symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea.

A letter sent out to parents from Headteacher Mr Jackson also said;

"The numbers are larger than would normally be expected, so after discussion with the Cumbria and Lancashire Health Protection Team we are writing to parents.

"The symptoms are suggestive of viral gastroenteritis (also known as norovirus) and we have been informed that high levels of viral illness are currently circulating in the community.

"We have taken advice from Public Health England who have reinforced that if your child is affected with these symptoms, they should remain off school until they have been symptom free for 48 hours.

"Staff have also been given the same advice.

"This guidance must be strictly adhered to for the general health and wellbeing of the whole school community.

"We would like to thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

"Information leaflets about viral gastroenteritis are available on the NHS website".

The students affected are being kept separate from other kids and staff who haven't caught the illness.

We're also told that "spirits are high and the great team work is ensuring that everyone is making the most of an unfortunate situation".

The kids are also being brought back on separate coaches.
