VIDEO: Investigation after huge blaze in Colne

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen for miles after a fire broke out in Colne.

At it's height eight fire engines from Blackburn, Nelson, Hyndburn, Earby, Great Harwood, Colne and Barnoldswick, along with the Stinger attended the scene on Green Road.

Lancashire fire and rescue service told 2BR waste opposite an industrial unit had gone up in flames.

Overnight one fire engine remained on the scene damping down.

Investigations are underway to try and find out what caused the fire.

Lancashire Police urge people in the local area to close windows.

UPDATE

 

Lancashire Fire Service have controlled the blaze that broke out at the plastics site. 

 

 

Fire engines from Blackburn, Nelson, Hyndburn, Earby, Great Harwood, Colne and Barnoldswick, along with the Stinger attended to the waste fire in Colne. The fire involved a large quantity of waste in the open adjacent to an industrial unit.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used three jets and the Stinger to bring the fire under control and are working with the Environment Agency to minimise any environmental impact from water run-off.
