A new Chatty Cafe scheme is coming to Elmfield Hall in Accrington.

The scheme sees one table set aside in the cafe, where people can go if they're feeling lonely, and talk to other people in the same position.

Deborah from Community Solutions explains;

Deborah anyone can feel lonely, whatever your age;

"If you are a student going to uni and you feel overwhelmed and isolated, or you're someone coming up to retirement and wondering, 'What do I do now?'

"Or you've been bereaved and you're feeling lonely because you've lost your partner."

It's being introduced by Community Solutions, an organisation that works to improve the health, emotional and spiritual well-being of local people. -

Deborah told 2BR that loneliness can be bad for your mental health;

"People start to withdraw from society, they stop taking care of their own health and wellbeing.

"We see people that stop going to the GP and it starts to affect their mental health."

It's part of their lottery-funded Transitions project, helping people go through life changes, such as bereavement.

Deborah said:

"Often when you're bereaved you're swamped, there's a lot of arrangements to make at a time when you're distressed and emotional.

"We help people practically but also emotionally - we offer a bereavement and loss course with mentors.

"That encourage them to grieve and then move on and create a new normal in their lives.

"It's been developed through experience, we often have people who haven't been able to move through grief and loss positively and come to us in crisis."

The Chatty Cafe will be launched at 1pm at Elmfield Hall on the 5th April at Elmfield House.
