Man jailed for causing death of boy

(Updated 4:00pm 12th October 2017)

A man's been jailed for causing the death of a Blackburn boy.

Atif Dayaji, 27, of St. Stephen's Avenue has been sentenced to four years in prison.

It's after he hit 9 year old Adam Limbada as he crossed Whalley New Road in August 2016.

In sentencing the judge said:

"You are a good man that has done a bad thing.

"You made a deliberate decision to accelerate on a narrow road with shops and terraced houses."

The police said that if Atif had been driving at 30, 40 or even 50mph the collision could have been avoided.

The judge hoped that the case would act as a deterrent.

He said:

"It needs to be made clear for anyone hiring a high powered vehicle and driving dangerously that they will face the full weight of the law."
