(Updated 4:21pm 17th July 2017)

A 7-year-old boy is in hospital after an accident in Preston.

It happened at about 4pm yesterday (Sunday) on Queen Street in the city centre.

The boy was crossing the road when he was hit by a grey Toyota Corolla, suffering a serious head injury.

The 7-year-old was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital but then transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.

Police say his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Sgt Malcolm Bell from the Road Policing Unit said:

"I wish the boy well and hope he makes a full recovery in hospital where he is currently being looked after.

"I would ask any witnesses to come forward as they could assist with our investigation."

Part of Queen Street between the junction of Grimshaw Street and London Road was closed for around two hours while officers carried out investigation work.

Anyone with information can call 01772 410465 or if they fail to get an answer, 101, quoting incident reference 991 of July 16th.
