PHOTOS: Hundreds protest against Trump in Preston

8:42am 31st January 2017

Hundreds gathered at the Harris museum in Preston last night against Donald Trump.

Protests were held up and down the country over his travel ban that stops people from 7 mainly Muslim countries entering the US.

Banners filled the Flag Market with messages saying "Dump the Trump" and "Build bridges not walls".

17 year old Matthew spoke at the rally he said:

"Preston has a very proud history of standing up for refugees and welcoming refugees and people of all backgrounds. With President Trump's latest piece of legislature , where he isn't welcoming people from elsewhere, I feel that we as a community need to reach out to our local MPs and ask them to scrutinise the government for still working with him".

"It's a beautiful thing to see people come together so quickly. It's very easy to become pessimistic and think that's what we have to put up with and live with especially when there is so much division and hatred. but what we need to do is look to the future and oppose that".

"Refugees are coming from war zones, they aren't going to America to cause war, they just want a better life for themselves. I just think it's wrong".

Another added.:

"We volunteer with Syria refugees every week. It's hard knowing they are completely banned from a country when you can see what lives they've managed to build here".
