PHOTOS: Chorley A&E reopens

A&E REOPENING 2

11:36am 18th January 2017

Campaigners gathered at Chorley A&E this morning as the department reopened on a part time basis.

They cheered and applauded as staff returned.

Demonstrators have held protests every Saturday morning since it was downgraded to an Urgent Care unit in April.

Kathy Hurley was there this morning:

"We're welcoming staff at the newly opened 12 hour A&E but we are trying to emphasise that we want 24 hour A&E, we'll have 24 hour urgent care but we feel we need and want 24 hour A&E.

"We've been here 40 weeks, Saturday mornings 10-11 and I think Chorley people have triumphed but it's only a partial triumph".

"It's power of the people but we're not the only ones there are others in the country because A&E's are closing down all over the country. Our campaign has highlighted that and we've had fantastic support from the public for 40 weeks"
