Stan Reiz KC, having been admitted to the Bar of the Cayman Islands to appear in this case, successfully defended a man accused of participating in a knife attack on two men in a crowded bar in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. The prosecution case was that the three defendants, in furtherance of a joint enterprise, attacked a man whom they believed had disrespected them. It was suggested that all three were armed with knives, planned the violence together and inflicted serious wounds to the man’s arms by ‘chopping’ him. When another man tried to intervene to stop the attack, the prosecution suggested he was stabbed multiple times and fatally wounded.
Following a 4 week trial, Stan Reiz KC’s client was unanimously acquitted of all charges, namely: murder, manslaughter, wounding with intent and wounding. One defendant was convicted of murder and pleaded guilty to wounding. Another defendant was convicted of wounding with intent. The two convicted defendants will be sentenced in the new year.
