Chambers was deeply saddened to hear that Michael Wolkind died on 12 July following a long illness.
Michael was a member of Chambers between 2000 and 2020, and was very much a “one off”. Never one to abide by convention, Michael sometimes rubbed judges (and opponents) up the wrong way, but he was a fearsome cross-examiner, the king of the soundbite and a consummate showman.
His mischievous sense of fun was even more in evidence out of Court, and Michael’s contributions to Chambers’ e-mail threads were a source of great amusement.
Michael may have been irreverent, but he was also extremely kind. He undertook a great deal of pro bono work (much of it out of the spotlight) and also gave his time as a grief counsellor and worked with We Hold a Hand, providing mental health advocacy for underserved communities.
We send our thoughts and condolences to Kathryn and Michael’s three children. He will be much missed.
