The 2017 edition of the Legal 500 directory was released on 11th October 2017, and Chambers was pleased to have received a total of 66 recommendations.
Chambers was recommended as a leading set in six practice areas (Business & Regulatory crime, General Crime, Fraud, Health & safety, Sport and Professional Discipline & regulatory) and 35 individual members (14 QCs and 21 juniors) were recommended across seven different practice areas.
The guide describes Chambers as:
‘the leading criminal set in the south of England’. ‘An inexhaustible array of talent from top to bottom offers solicitors a complete service’; ‘only the highest standards are accepted and a very strong work ethic is engendered from the start of pupillage’. Outside the pure criminal space, chambers is ‘extremely strong for disciplinary, regulatory and fraud work, where there is also strength and depth in abundance’. The clerks’ room is ‘a well-oiled machine’, which provides ‘a strong personal service’. In particular, senior clerk John Grimmer ‘remains without parallel, combining the very best traditions of a clerk (approachability, good humour and diplomacy) with the sharpest business brain going’. He ‘runs a tight ship’ that includes Paul Rodgers (‘very knowledgeable and helpful’) and Lee Bartlett (‘responds quickly and efficiently to client needs’). ‘Chambers as a whole takes care to approach cases in a tailored and sensitive way, which clients really appreciate.’
