Katherine Higgs, instructed by Daniel Salter and Samuel Omueda of Edwards Duthie Shamash Solicitors, represented a defendant acquitted of intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage following an 8 day trial before Wood Green Crown Court. The defendant was alleged to have burnt a high value antique statue belonging to the complainant in a fit of jealousy, before strangling and assaulting her when she returned home. The complainant provided photographs of her alleged injuries and the damaged statue. The trial involved undermining the credibility of the complainant with bad character evidence and highlighting a lack of investigation by the police. The jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts in one hour and 30 minutes.
