Jim Sturman KC, leading Thomas Daniel, instructed privately by Jim Meyer and Richard Egan of Egan Meyer Solicitors represented X (an eminent high-net-worth individual) who was acquitted of bribery at Southwark Crown Court when the Judge directed not guilty verdicts on all counts.
It was alleged that X, a politically exposed person (PEP), had arranged improper payments to a Director and an employee of a bank to either reward them for, or induce them to, perform their roles improperly in his favour. The allegations were disputed and it was maintained on X’s behalf throughout the proceedings, which related back to arrests in 2017, that information had been withheld from the defence. Two months before the trial was due to start, the Crown offered no evidence as a result of admitted disclosure failings. X remains a man of good character.
