Huda Musa, instructed by Erin Edgar of Nicholls & Nicholls, secured the acquittal of her client charged with inflicting GBH with intent (s.18) following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
Huda’s client, a young woman of good character, was accused of stabbing another woman at least 8 times with a broken bottle. The allegation arose following a longstanding dispute between the parties in independent living accommodation which culminated in Huda’s client allegedly repeatedly stabbing the complainant. The complainant sustained several lacerations to the body including to her arms, face, body, thigh and back. She was found collapsed outside and bleeding heavily by members of the public who assisted at the scene just minutes after the alleged stabbing. Huda’s client maintained her defence that, whilst an altercation had taken place, she did not cause the injuries alleged and the complainant left the incident uninjured (i.e. that the injuries must have been either ‘self inflicted’ or caused by a ‘mystery man’ in the minutes between the incident and arrival of emergency services).
Following a 6 day trial, Huda’s client was acquitted after the jury returned not guilty verdicts both on the s18 GBH count, and on the alternative count of s20 GBH.
