Hanna Llewellyn-Waters led Natalie Bird in the prosecution of Ivan Turtak, Kevin Horvath and Ernest Gunar in a trial spanning 3 months at Canterbury Crown Court. The case involved extensive disclosure, careful handling of a highly vulnerable child witness with multiple legal arguments on the admissibility of evidence, bad character material and expert reports. A 12-year-old child was lured into a car before being driven to multiple locations. She was drugged, exploited and raped over the course of three days. Following the conviction of the defendants by a jury, they were sentenced to extended sentences: 20 years for both Turtak and Horvath and 22 years for Gunar.
