Dean George, instructed by Paul Cameron and Marcia Lawrence of Bark & Co., represented a client with Autism Spectrum Disorder accused of killing his mother’s partner by stabbing him up to 18 times including twice in the mouth, a number of times in the torso and in the back. He was acquitted of murder. Expert evidence was called by the defence, and the Crown’s leading psychiatric expert challenged, on the effect of his ASD and its interplay with issues relevant to self-defence and loss of control. He was convicted of the lesser offence of manslaughter.
