On 25th March 2022 Alutrade Limited were sentenced to a fine of £2 million for an offence of corporate manslaughter by Mr Justice Martin Spencer at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Contrary to the defence submissions the Court determined that the Company’s failings put it in the highest category for the offence.
CAQC and AS were instructed by the Special Crime Group at the CPS following a joint West Midland’s Police and HSE investigation. Despite initially pleading not guilty the Company pleaded guilty a month before trial after further analysis of the CCTV revealed multiple breaches. 3 of the company’s directors also pleaded guilty to offences contrary to the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
