Instructing Lauren Bates-Brownsword

Lauren Bates-Brownsword both prosecutes and defends across a wide range of criminal matters. She regularly appears in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Courts, and Youth Courts. Her practice covers cases involving serious violence, drugs offences, sexual offences, domestic abuse, and road traffic offences. Lauren also acts in regulatory cases, including before the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Prior to joining 2 Bedford Row, Lauren worked as a caseworker at Reeds Solicitors, managing a broad variety of criminal cases including appeals. She also gained valuable experience as a caseworker for the death penalty charity Amicus and as an intern at the Capital Post-Conviction Project of Louisiana (CPCPL). During her time at CPCPL, Lauren contributed to death penalty appeals, including the organisation’s first appeal based on the Supreme Court’s Ramos decision. She also gained experience drafting legal guidance on DNA evidence, disclosure, and jury selection issues.
