Eleanor Gwilym prosecutes and defends in the Crown Court, Youth Court and Magistrates’ Court on a wide range of criminal matters, including trial advocacy, sentences, and confiscation proceedings.

In 2024, Eleanor defended clients at trial covering a range of serious criminal offences, including drugs offences blackmail, assisting unlawful immigration, sexual assault and affray, amongst others.  Her particularly notable cases in the last year include:

  • Eleanor defended in a seven-handed conspiracy to supply Class A drugs trial.
  • Eleanor acted for a Defendant charged with production of Class B drugs, being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs. D was the only individual present at the scene of a cannabis factory during a dawn raid by police. Following a successful submission of no case to answer, Eleanor’s client was acquitted of all charges.

Eleanor also prosecutes at CPS Level 2.  Recent trials Eleanor has prosecuted include section 18 GBH, domestic violence allegations, offensive weapons and robbery.

Eleanor’s practice also includes acting in Inquests (representing bereaved families in Coroner’s inquests) and Inquiries.  Recent notable cases include:

  • In 2025, Eleanor represented a family bereaved by their relative’s death in a London hospital. Eleanor cross-examined four healthcare professionals, resulting in a narrative verdict considering missed opportunities to provide care for the deceased.
  • In 2023 she was instructed as sole counsel by Peters & Peters to carry out a review of historic criminal allegations made by a subpostmaster.
  • Eleanor is currently instructed by the Department of Health and Social Care in Module 5 of the Covid Inquiry and for the Ministry of Justice in Module 8 of the Covid Inquiry.

In addition to her criminal and Inquiry practice, Eleanor has an expanding Regulatory practice. She appears for healthcare regulators and regulated professionals in contested fitness to practice hearings at the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Pharmaceutical Council. She is regularly instructed by Transport for London in Taxi Licencing Appeals.

Eleanor also speaks fluent Welsh, and accepts instructions in Welsh.
