Chambers is delighted to announce that Ashraf Khan has been appointed by the NMC to act as an independent Legal Assessor. Ashraf will play a critical role in advising the NMC’s Practice Committee Panels to make decisions in Fitness to Practise hearings in accordance with the law and the NMC’s Rules and guidance. He will also provide legal advice to the Registrar and the Council on any questions arising in connection with fitness to practise matters.
The NMC is the independent regulator for nurses and midwives in the United Kingdom, and nursing associates in England. It currently regulates 788,000 nursing and midwifery professionals.
Ashraf will commence his appointment in January 2024. He will undertake the Legal Assessor role alongside his practice in Chambers, and will continue to accept instructions throughout all his practice areas.
