Anand Beharrylal QC represented KS in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) in his appeal against an extended sentence of 17 years and 4 months imposed following conviction for manslaughter, after being acquitted of murder at Snaresbrook Crown Court in 2019. Anand successfully argued that the judge had unlawfully altered the sentence for a drugs offence in not following the statutory provisions for the “slip rule” and had not made sufficient allowance for other related and overlapping drugs offences. The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to a 15 year extended sentence.
