Anand Beharrylal KC represented MB at sentence for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, carrying a mandatory minimum term of five years. The prosecution case was that the firearm had been used in an attempted murder in the Reading area, that ammunition had been supplied for another attempted murder in the Hertfordshire area, and the defendant was a custodian of that firearm and ammunition. The prosecution asserted that the offences demonstrated the highest level of culpability and harm placing the defendant towards the upper end of the ten year maximum. Following submissions at sentencing this was challenged and the defendant was sentenced to five years and four months.
Anand was instructed by Ernest Aduwa and Molly Egan of Stokoe Partnership.
