Alex Stein prosecutes fairground ride case for the HSE

The victim, a mother who was sat next to one of her daughters, was thrown at height from the Xcelerator ride which was operating at the Funderpark Fun Fair in Hillingdon. The victim was in hospital for over 4 months and suffered lifelong injury. The designer/Manufacturer, the Amusements Device Inspector and the Operator all pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the ride containment system was safe. On 7 May 2024 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the Deputy Chief Magistrate accepted the prosecution submissions on culpability and harm and imposed suspended sentences on all three individual defendants.
