Alex Stein prosecutes tragic case involving a young mother failing to secure her baby in his child seat

In July 2022 MK, only 19 years old, along with her young son were driven from the beach in Clacton towards her mother’s address by her friend, SS. MK and SS had been drinking on Clacton beach and MK failed to strap her son into his car seat. During a collision her son was thrown from the vehicle and very sadly died shortly thereafter.

The trial involved expert pathology, collision investigation and mechanical engineering evidence. It was heard by Mr Justice Jay at Chelmsford Crown Court. MK was convicted of Gross Negligence Manslaughter and sentenced to a suspended sentence of imprisonment. 

Sentence for SS who earlier pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed limit will be heard in early August.
