Alastair Smith secures convictions on behalf of the FCA in fraud trial

Cases 11 Apr 23

Alastair Smith, instructed by the Financial Conduct Authority and leading Natalie McNamee, secured the convictions of four defendants for their involvement in a £1.4 binary options trading fraud. Over a period of two years the defendants had defrauded over 120 victims by persuading them to invest in a false trading platform. The defendants used a complex web of offshore companies and accounts in an attempt to hide their offending. Following a two-month trial at Southwark Crown Court, three defendants were convicted of offences relating to Fraud and attempting to pervert the course of justice and sentenced to a total of 23 years. A fourth defendant awaits sentence for a regulatory offence.
