Allan Compton KC, leading Lucy Sweetland, represented MQ at Newport Crown Court who faced charges of murder and participation in an organised crime group, arising from the alleged operation of a cannabis farm in Cardiff. Following successful legal arguments, during the trial before Cotter J concerning the admissibility of evidence of communications between his then solicitor and the police prior to his charge, the Prosecution offered no evidence against MQ on both charges. Allan and Lucy were instructed by Mark Rogers of Sussex Defence Solicitors.
Emma Kutner, acting as a led junior, secured the acquittal of GM (a 20-year-old also charged with murder) at the close of the Prosecution’s case following a successful submission of no case to answer. At an earlier stage in the proceedings, the defence for GM successfully applied to dismiss charges of section 18 GBH and conspiracy to produce cannabis. Emma was instructed by Tommy Polycarpou of Faradays solicitors.
All other defendants in the trial were convicted of either murder or manslaughter.
