Olivia Rawlings, instructed by Nicola Hall of Tuckers Solicitors, secured the acquittal of her client who was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, against a serving police officer.
Olivia’s client was neurodivergent with Autism, ADHD and Tourette syndrome. The jury saw footage showing that when officers attempted to arrest him for an unrelated matter, he struck an officer to his head twice with metal handcuffs causing a serious head injury. Olivia’s client had accepted the lesser alternative charge of section 20 wounding four years prior. The defence at trial was that he had no intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
Following a three-day trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Olivia’s client was acquitted within 30 minutes.
