Conviction quashed of journalist convicted in Operation Elveden Prosecution

The only journalist from The Sun Newspaper to be convicted as a result of the MPS Operation Elveden had his conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal following a renewed application for leave to appeal. Mr Anthony France, a prominent reporter at The Sun, represented by Richard Kovalevsky QC and Jamas Hodivala has regained his good name after the Court of Appeal were persuaded that there were significant deficiencies in the directions given to the jury in the summing-up concerning the proper assessment of issues relating to public interest. The case is reported at [2016] EWCA Crim 1588.
