Allan Compton QC and David Patience, acted for LS who was acquitted, following a 9 week trial at Woolwich Crown Court, of an offence of conspiracy to produce counterfeit currency. The trial was the highest value counterfeit currency case prosecuted in English legal history, with an estimated potential worth of over £20million.
LS was a printer at an industrial printworks. He was arrested, together with PB, at the printworks when police raided the premises in May 2019. PB, who had previous convictions for producing counterfeit currency, made admissions at the scene and pleaded guilty. At the printworks, police discovered in excess of six million pounds of £20 notes, in various stages of production. They also recovered specialist foil used to create metallic strips on the notes bearing LS’ fingerprints. His name was also found on a purported list of conspirators recovered from PB’s address.
Allan and David were instructed by Nicola Hall of Tuckers Solicitors
