Abbey Robertson’s client acquitted of Strangulation, ABH, Perverting the Course of Justice, Battery, and Criminal Damage

Abbey Robertson, instructed by Sam Nundy of Levy & Co Solicitors, successfully defended a client facing allegations of intentional strangulation, ABH, perverting the course of justice, battery, and multiple counts of criminal damage. 

The Crown alleged that on two separate occasions, Abbey’s client subjected the complainant, his former partner, to violent physical assaults in a ‘drunken rage.’ It was the prosecution case that in between those two occasions, the defendant manipulated the complainant and coerced her into retracting her statement previously given to police. 

The defendant denied all allegations, and the defence case was that they had been fabricated by the complainant.

At trial, Abbey carefully cross-examined several vulnerable witnesses, including the complainant, and members of her family.  Following an 8-day trial at Maidstone Crown Court, the jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty on five out of the six counts on the Indictment. Abbey’s client was convicted of only one charge, the least serious offence of criminal damage.
