Steve Joy

Join Steve every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Steve started his broadcasting career in the Middle East working for a radio station on board a ship called ‘The Voice of Peace’. From there he moved closer to home but still out at sea doing a brief stint on the famous Radio Caroline. After a stretch on the north sea it was back abroad to work on dry land on Radio Luxembourg for a couple of years.

After that though Steve freelanced for Hereward FM and Q103 in East Anglia but soon got itchy feet for sunshine again and moved to Malta for a few years. In early 2000 Steve came back to the UK to work in Kent, managing stations in Tonbridge and Rochester but after this bout of management he fled back to Malta to help launch a radio station there, when his work was done in helping the new station get on its feet he decided to help get another radio station up and running but this time in Spain on the Costa Del Sol!

That’s how we get here to 2br…. Steve has family in the north west and has been a friend of the team of 2br for years, so it was inevitable really that he would end up here on the Hits and Headlines Drive, especially as he enjoys the late start, it suits his lifestyle – lazy old goat!

Steve likes to travel when he can, unfortunately he can’t afford to very often these days as he currently spends so much money repairing his old car, (we keep threatening to have it towed to the scrap yard, at least that would stop him going on about it on the radio!).

He’s also a big fan of pop pub quizzes and can often be found on Sunday evenings in the pubs of Harle Syke distracting his teammates who still manage to win despite his hindrance.

Movies are another of Steve’s passions, and try to get down to the local cinema whenever there’s a new release!!

He says he wants to retire early and spend his remaining days somewhere in the sun… he’s ‘avin’ a laugh, what with spiralling car repair bills it looks like his dream is a long way off!!

Burnley Football Club Charity Bike Ride 2008 From the 26th of April  to Sunday the 4th of May 2008. Martin Vernon from the 2BR Breakfast show caught up with the team of riders on the Burnley Football Club Charity Bike Ride 2008.  They have been raising money for Burnley F.C. Youth development and Leukaemia research. This years trip was a  little different.  Starting at Turf Moor and traveling to Holland, via an overnight ferry from Hull, they then had overnight stops in Amsterdam, Hertogenbosch, Ouddorp, Ostende and Calais before a final day cycling from Dover to Crystal Palace for our last match of the season there. The Team are still counting the money, but have raised so far more than £25,000. WELL DONE TEAM
