Two lanes of the M65 are closed, with queuing traffic due to accident, involving a van and a car between junction 7 for Rishton and junction 8 for Accrington.
The road was temporarily closed in both directions while an Air Ambulance attended the scene earlier.
The westbound carriageway reopened at 12:05. Lanes one and two (of three) remain closed heading towards Burnley.
