CCTV appeal after woman is robbed in Nelson
2:09pm 2nd December 2014
Police have released CCTV images of a man they'd like to speak to after a 69 year old woman was robbed of her handbag in Nelson.
it happened at around 8pm on Friday 28 November on Leeds Road near Pendle Wavelengths when the victim was pushed in the back and fell to the floor. A man then stole the woman’s handbag which contained her purse with £100 cash inside, before running off down a ginnel next to the medical centre on Leeds Road. The victim suffered a black eye and severe bruising to her legs.
The man is described as Asian, approximately 6ft tall with broad shoulders and is around 25 to 30 years old. He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap, a red long sleeve shirt, dark jeans and dark shoes.
DC Haydn Sibley of Blackburn Police said: “This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable victim who has understandably been left very shaken by the incident and we are keen to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV images.”
Officers believe the robbery may be linked to another incident which happened on Monday 17 November where an 85 year old woman had her purse snatched as she was boarding a bus at Nelson Interchange on Railway Street. A man grabbed the victim’s purse as she went to pay her fare and ran off, heading through the subway towards Hibson Road.
DC Haydn Sibley added: “We believe this robbery could be linked to the incident at the bus station which happened 11 days earlier and I would urge anyone who recognises the man pictured or who has any information that could assist with our investigation to contact us.”
Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 quoting crime reference number EG1401179.
